there are great articles written by the people here about henchies and how to control them. it's on the homepage.
i usually do missions with guildmates/alliance teammates. if none of them are online, i do it with henchies.

For henching, get a longbow, a no-attribute longbow will have a max of 8-11 or so. Start combat with your longbow. When things stabilize a bit or the time seems right, then jump in with your daggers. Do not lead the charge yourself.
I henched a lot of the game. Some of it as a Critical Barrage Archer. Sort of a cop out in a way, but it gets the job done, is effective, does a great deal of DPS, and monks like you.

Quest: go with hench, and don't afraid of death. lol
Mission: start a group and don't die every 20 second. then ppl will be happy to continue several Missions with you. ppl accept or join Assassin have low expectation on them to live long, if you live slightly longer and kill something clean, other ppl is more then happy to keep on with you. I have grp that keep on the team with me straight from going Awaken Water to kill Shiro.

Presentation is everything to be honest, I've been assassin since faction came out, and 90% of the time people respects me as an assassin.
The trick is to represent your self properly. Firstly, try buying expensive armour to show you that your a determined and dedicated Assasin. I got fow all dyed black...
Anyways, if your in a mission that requires members up to 8 people, than I suggest you get your rank title out, well if you got one. I usually get automatically invited from parties when they see me rank 11. As rank shows you how experienced you are as performing as a team.
If missions that requires like only 4 players, get your gladiator title out, as it shows the INDIVIDUAL ability.
Dont bother using title like drunkard, or canthan explorer 60% etc... Also bringing Suvivle Title if you got one would also help alot, which I dont
As I say, the way you present your self is vital, and if you do it well, you get invited within seconds...

I don't think most people have the luxury of having black FoW and a r11 title
Getting good armour is a good idea! I suggest getting the House zu Heltzer armour, it's cheap, especially after a couple of hours of AB or Aspenwood; and it looks great ^^ Sure beats seitung and shing jea..

I have always henched during quests. It saves time.
City Missions - start your own group (as has been said before) or join a group that just started.
I have the most (most likely anyway) hated combo - A/Mo. My original idea is to assassinate targets and cure blindness and have a hard rez. Now, with my weapons, I enchant myself in order to do more damage (+15% while enchanted).
I've only seen once where people wanted Assassins in their group (GLF damage dealer - Ranger, Elementalist, Assassin - notice, no warrios. )
There are a few haters still around (met a monk who said, if you get an assassin in the group, I'm out of here). We accepted the assassin into the group, and the monk left.
Personally, I don't mind Assassins, regardless of what character I have. I'm okay with Assassins when I'm my monk or ritualist.
And yes, see the links to controlling henchies.

As was said in another thread, a A/R using a bow has a relatively easier time getting into a group. People are much more likely to take an assassin that they know won't be in the middle of combat (i.e. dying).

meh, start groups like kyle said or say something like "non suicidal assassin LFG" (and of course dont play suicidal @_@ hard against afflicted tho)
crit barrager works too, helps the team and keeps you safe
armor would help but most of the time ppl are looking at the chat screen and not at you so idk, may matter once inside the mission tho
